Grindrod Water Treatment Plant Piping Upgrades and Meter Installation

The Grindrod Water Treatment Plant (WTP) consists of a single building that houses a packaged water treatment system. The raw water is diverted from the Enderby River and pumped into the single train packaged upflow clarifier and filtration process. The system has been experiencing corrosion and aging effects of the process piping within the facility. This project will review and upgrade the existing piping to improve the reliability and extend the service life of the system.

In addition, two meters will be installed within the water treatment plant to assist in management of the system. Variable Frequency Drives will be installed on the distribution pumps to update the existing pumps. This will allow the pumps to run at variable speeds to accommodate required flows which will save electricity and extend the life of the pumps.

This project is fully funded by Community Works Funds from Electoral Area “F”.

• Will my water quality be affected?

When the header pipe is replaced there will be an interruption in water service. A Boil Water Notice will be in effect during the water service interruption and will remain in place until water quality sampling results show that the system has returned to normal. Customers will be given advance notice of the water service interruption and Boil Water Notice.
