Update - July 19, 2023

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO), in conjunction with Interior Health, advises that the Water Quality Advisory (WQA) 2023 issued on June 9th for water services on Longacre Drive has been RESCINDED. See map below for affected properties.

The construction on the newly installed water main was completed on July 10th and all bacterial testing results and disinfection levels are within normal drinking water standards in the distribution system.


Update - June 9, 2023

Greater Vernon Water (GVW) is currently switching several water services on Longacre Drive to a newly installed water main as part of a renewal project. Due to the fragile and substandard condition of the existing piping material, unavoidable breaks are occurring during the work which has resulted in water outages. Operators are taking all precautions and steps necessary to avoid further water outages; however given the number of events so far, more are expected.

These anticipated breaks may cause cloudy water (air or turbidity) in the system, or loss of water to customers which can lead to depressurization of the distribution pipes increasing the risk of back siphonage (backflow).

As a result Greater Vernon Water (GVW), in conjunction with Interior Health (IH) has issued a precautionary WATER QUALITY ADVISORY (WQA) for customers in the Longacre Dr area as of June 9, 2023. See map below for affected properties.

The WQA is in effect until construction work is completed and sampling results confirm that the drinking water has returned to normal. The estimated time of completion is late June. 

Why are customers affected?

Customers in the Longacre Dr area may experience increased turbidity, above the drinking water standard of 1.0 NTU. There may also be loss of water events which increase the risk of back siphonage (backflow) into the drinking water system.

What should affected customers do?

Until the WQA is rescinded, very young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems should exercise caution. If turbidity or loss of water occurs, customers may choose to boil their water for at least one minute when using for the following purposes:

  • drinking
  • brushing teeth
  • washing fruits & vegetables to be eaten raw
  • making beverages or ice.

Update - June 8, 2023

The water main has had to be shut down again on Longacre Drive down to Apollo Road.  It is expected that the water will be restored by the evening.  There will be water bottles available for home owners, if needed, at the construction site.  We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.


Original Notice - June 6, 2023

Please be advised that there is an unexpected shut down of the water main on Longacre Drive.  Properties from 7324 Longacre Drive all the way down to Apollo Road will be without water.  It will be off for approximately a couple of hours. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
