The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO), in conjunction with Interior Health (IH) has RESCINDED the WATER QUALITY ADVISORY for customers supplied by the Mabel Lake Water Utility (MLW), at Kingfisher, east of Enderby.

Turbidity levels are currently measuring less than 1 NTU, and the water supply has returned to a “GOOD” rating, allowing for the Water Quality Advisory to be rescinded.

Staff continues to monitor water quality and work closely with IH.

Customers will also be informed via road signs and the RDNO website.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) – Mabel Lake Water Utility in cooperation with Interior Health, advises customers that the BOIL WATER NOTICE issued on June 23, 2020 for customers of the MABEL LAKE WATER UTILITY is hereby REDUCED to a WATER QUALITY ADVISORY. The water quality is now rated as “FAIR”.

The MABEL LAKE WATER UTILITY is located in the community of Kingfisher, approximately 35 kilometers east of Enderby.

Why are customers affected?

All customers on the MABEL LAKE WATER UTILITY are being informed that the turbidity (cloudiness) levels in Mabel Lake from spring runoff or “freshet” are greater than 1.0 NTU in the Mabel Lake water system. Due to this level of turbidity the water quality is now rated as FAIR. This Water Quality Advisory will be in effect until further notice.

What does a FAIR rating mean?

A fair warning means that some customers should be careful when ingesting the water.

Who should be careful?

The following customers should be careful when ingesting the water:

  • children
  • the elderly
  • people with weakened immune systems

What should these customers do?

For these customers, water intended for the following uses should be boiled for one minute:

  • drinking
  • preparing any foods
  • mixing baby formula
  • brushing teeth
  • washing fruits and vegetables to be eaten raw
  • making beverages or ice

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO), in conjunction with Interior Health (IH) has issued a BOIL WATER NOTICE for customers supplied by the Mabel Lake Water Utility (MLW).

Why are customers affected?

Customers served by the Mabel Lake Water Utility have water supplied from Mabel Lake. Due to spring freshet and lake level changes, the turbidity has exceeded 5.0 NTU at the Mabel Lake Water Intake. Due to this increase in turbidity (cloudiness) the water quality is now rated as POOR. This Boil Water Notice will be in effect until further notice.

What does a Poor rating mean?

A poor rating means that all customers should exercise caution when using the water for consumption purposes.

What should customers do?

Water intended for the following uses should be boiled for one minute:

  • drinking
  • preparing any foods
  • washing fruits and vegetables
  • making beverages or ice
  • brushing teeth
  • preparing infant formula

Customers will be informed when water quality returns to normal via road signs and on our website.
