Crews and equipment from the BX Swan Lake and Coldstream Fire Departments are currently onsite at the Greater Vernon Diversion and Disposal Facility (GVDDF) dealing with a fire that started in a pile of chipped wood waste stored on the upper level of the GVDDF.
BX Swan Lake Fire Department crews were onsite at the GVDDF on Monday, January 8, and it appeared that the issue had been dealt with at that time; however, the pile reignited earlier this morning (Tuesday, January 9). The incident is in a relatively isolated location on the GVDDF site, and facility operations have not been impacted.
The GVDDF is fully open to all residential and commercial customers except for the asbestos disposal area, which currently has limited access. It is not known how long fire crews will remain on the scene.
