The BC SPCA Vernon & District Branch is excited to receive a donation of $11,500 from the Regional District of North Okanagan’s (RDNO) official pet licensing partner, DocuPet. This gift was made possible by North Okanagan dog owners who upgraded to a designer tag or generously contributed a direct donation while licensing their dogs.
“We are thrilled to receive this donation and look forward to the impact it will have here,” said Chelsea Taylor, BC SPCA Vernon & District Branch Manager. “These funds will be allocated to support animals in need of veterinary care, spay and neuter, or things like specialty diets, so we thank DocuPet and the many generous residents who made this donation possible through licensing their dogs.”
BC SPCA Vernon & District cares for approximately 645 homeless, stray, injured and abused animals each year. Donations and volunteers are critical in keeping the shelter running; which is why the BC SPCA Vernon and District location is excited to be an official DocuPet Safe&Happy fund partner.
In November of 2020, the RDNO partnered with DocuPet for dog licensing. DocuPet offers a simplified and streamlined process for registering dogs, and their program includes initiatives that support the wellbeing of pets in the area. While registering, owners have the option to upgrade to one of over 180 designer tags, and 20% of each upgraded tag is donated directly to BC SPCA Vernon & District Branch. Additionally, DocuPet offers the complimentary HomeSafe™ 24/7 lost pet service, which quickly reunites lost dogs with their owners and reduces shelter stays. The HomeSafe™ service is included with each official RDNO pet licence and allows pet owners to supply necessary information and contacts to be referenced should their pet become lost. The service includes dispatch staff that work 24/7 to help reunite lost dogs.
“We want to thank all of the North Okanagan dog owners who have embraced the new program and that have generously contributed to the local SPCA,” said Leah Mellott, General Manager of Electoral Area Administration, RDNO.
Licensing your dog is mandatory within the RDNO’s dog control service area, which includes the City of Vernon, the District of Coldstream, Village of Lumby, and Electoral Areas “B”, “C”, and a portion of “D”. Licences are required to be renewed annually, and Dog owners can learn more, register and renew their dog’s licence, or upgrade to a designer tag online at rdno.docupet.ca, over the phone at 1-855-249-1370, by mail or in-person.
