Greater Vernon Water (GVW) advises customers in the Learmouth and Reid Road areas of a planned water service interruption for 48 hours from Tuesday, November 7th at 9 PM to Thursday, November 9th at 9 PM (affected properties shown on map below).

The water supply on these days will be unavailable or limited. Please store a short-term water supply before this work starts to fill toilets, wash hands, and for cooking and other household uses. Every effort will be made to complete the project earlier, but customers should be prepared for the outage to be 48 hours long.

This planned work is necessary in order to reduce the number and impact of unplanned, emergency repairs.  To allow the work to be completed, the large transmission main in this area must be drained, requiring GVW to issue a precautionary Boil Water Notice to customers in the affected area.

The notice will be in effect starting November 7th at 9 PM until sampling results confirm that the drinking water is safe. While water service to customers is being restored, you may experience some cloudiness and/or air in the water, which is normal. Please run the cold water in your bathtub until the water runs clear.

We apologize for the inconvenience this disruption will cause and thank you for your understanding.

What should affected customers do?

Until the BWN is rescinded, customers should exercise caution when using water for consumption purposes. All customers, especially young children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems, may choose to boil their water for at least one minute when using for purposes, such as:

  • Drinking
  • Brushing teeth
  • Washing fruits & vegetables to be eaten raw
  • Preparing any food
  • Mixing baby formula
  • Making beverages or ice

Why is this notice in place?

A section of the water main will need to be drained to replace valves. Draining distribution pipes increases the risk of back siphonage. The RDNO is required to issue a Boil Water Notice and complete water sampling to ensure the continued safety of the water system. This precautionary measure is based on the American Water Works Association (AWWA) standards and issued in conjunction with the Interior Health Authority.
