Original Notice - April 8, 2022
Greater Vernon Water (GVW) advises customers in the N Aberdeen, French, Pottery, E Vernon, Black Rock, Nickle, Buchanan and Binns Road areas (affected properties shown on attached maps) that a planned repair will take place on Monday, April 11, 2022 between 9:00 am - 4:00 pm and will impact water supply and quality. It is anticipated that the work will be completed during this time frame unless unforeseen circumstances arise which could extend this interruption. Properties on the maps will be out of water.
Please make necessary arrangements to have a short-term water supply stored before this work starts. While every effort will be made to complete the project by 4:00 pm on Monday, April 11th, it may be necessary to have the water off longer.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this disruption will cause and thank you for your cooperation.
In addition, Greater Vernon Water (GVW), in conjunction with Interior Health, advises customers supplied by Greater Vernon Water in the areas identified on the attached maps that they will be on a Precautionary Water Quality Advisory (WQA) beginning on April 11, 2022.
The WQA is in effect until sampling results confirm that the drinking water is safe. While water service to customers is being restored, you may experience some turbidity, which is normal. Please run the cold water in your bathtub and other cold water taps until the water runs clear.
What should affected customers do?
Until the WQA is rescinded, customers should exercise caution when using water for consumption purposes. All customers, especially young children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems, may choose to boil their water for at least one minute when using for purposes, such as:
- Drinking
- Brushing teeth
- Washing fruits & vegetables to be eaten raw
- Preparing any food
- Mixing baby formula
- Making beverages or ice
Why is this notice in place?
A section of the water main will need to be depressurized for an air valve replacement. Depressurization of distribution pipes increases the risk of back siphonage. The RDNO is required to issue a WQA and complete water sampling to ensure the continued safety of the water system. This precautionary measure is based on the American Water Works Association (AWWA) standards.
